Tormod Heier is a professor of military strategy and operations, a professor-II at Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences, and a docent at the Swedish Defence University in Stockholm. With 32 years of service in the Norwegian Armed Forces, including 15 years as a lieutenant colonel, he has held key positions in Brigade Nord, the Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Defence, and in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan.

Heier holds a PhD in Political Science and two master’s degrees in Political Science and War Studies from the University of Oslo and King’s College London. He has authored numerous books on hybrid warfare, military operations in Norway, Afghanistan, Libya, and Ukraine, as well as strategic leadership and social science methodology. He regularly lectures at universities, government institutions, and various organizations.

Heier serves as an expert advisor for military education evaluations in Sweden and Denmark, is a member of Nei til Atomvåpen’s advisory board, and was a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford in 2017. He received the Ossietzky Prize for freedom of speech in 2017 and the Army's Medal of Merit in 2023 for his contributions to knowledge dissemination on the war in Ukraine.

His latest books include Preparing for Hybrid Threats to Security (Palgrave, 2024) and The Role of Military Power in Norwegian Crisis Management (Cappelen Damm Academic, 2024).
