In the annual ranking of Norway’s best workplaces, mnemonic has been awarded 1st place in the category for organisations with 200 to 499 employees. This is the 5th time mnemonic has won its category in the ranking organised by Great Place to Work (GPTW), a global advisory institute that measures and analyses the culture in workplaces.

mnemonic's Head of R&D Siri Bromander and Operations Director Hanne Moen received the award at the Great Place to Work award ceremony yesterday.

On stage, the two were asked to share their experiences from working in mnemonic over many years, and seeing the organisation grow from start-up to close to 400 employees in five different European countries.

A solid footprint in the field of cyber security

When asked how mnemonic has worked to build a strong and trust-based culture and how this has changed as the organisation has grown, Siri Bromander highlighted mnemonic’s strong emphasis on building expertise within the field of cybersecurity.

"This focus has been part of mnemonic’s core from start. We’ve achieved a high professional standard, and have had a solid footprint in the field of cyber security internationally. By putting a lot of resources into recruiting correctly, and employing the right people, we’ve become a leading professional environment in what we do. Which in turn also attracts the best people."

"But it is also important to get them to stay. And a key component to that has been giving everyone at mnemonic a lot of responsibility and autonomy. How to learn, how to solve a problem and how to meet your responsibilities is up to each individual employee. You’re not limited by the ideas of a manager, and initiatives are springing up from the everywhere in the organisation", she continued.

Keeping what’s good

The core principle of giving employees a lot of responsibility and autonomy has been part from mnemonic’s way of working from start. Over the past 25 years the organisation’s approach to this hasn't changed, but has needed to adapt. Hanne Moen explained how on stage:

"As the company grew, we saw the need to structure our approach to this, to be able to take these core principles with us, even as we grow and become more international. One of the ways we’ve done this is by building what has over the years become a solid management development programme."

"We invite everyone with personnel responsibilities, no matter if you have one person in your team or 150. Or if you’ve been here for one year or 20. We mix and match all of them, and together they learn how to be good managers, and even more importantly share what it’s like to be a manager in mnemonic. This has made us better equipped to adapt to the changes the company is experiencing, and managers are better tuned in to the employees and the challenges they face", she stated.
